Cycling map 1:100.000 Munkevejen, the Monk's route in Denmark. With english routedescription.

Munkevejen is a themed cycle trail. It passes historical sites that bear witness to the spread of Christianity and its significance to our cultural heritage. At the same time, it offers enjoyment and awareness of some unique scenery, with many market towns and little villages.

The trail starts in Glückstadt, Germany, approx. 30 km north of Hamburg and then continues through Schleswig-Holstein to Fehmarn. On the Danish side, the trail continues from Rødbyhavn and ends in Roskilde. Roskilde Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the burial place of the Danish royal family.

In Denmark, the trail is signposted as Cycle Trail No. 88. The trail is divided into legs of between 15 and 35 km. At the start of each leg, there are tent sites or campsites where you can spend the night. From Roskilde, you can continue along Cycle Trail No. 4 to Copenhagen. In Germany, follow the Munkevejen (Mönchsweg) logo.

The trail follows a varied course along existing lanes, paths and recreational trails through the landscape. It passes churches, abbeys, historic ruins, old holy wells, cultural environments, scenic areas and other sites of special interest. The trail strings together the many market towns.
