Alberta Road Atlas from the Canadian Cartographics Corporation presenting the whole state at 1:250,000 in an A4-size, spiral-bound format, with indexes of parks indicating tourist facilities, communities plus roads. Road network distinguishes between paved and unpaved roads and also includes unimproved roads. Where appropriate, both road numbers and names are shown. The maps indicate border crossings from the US, but no driving distances are marked. Railway lines are included and local airports are marked. Symbols indicate campgrounds, tourist information offices, recreational areas, etc. Also marked are municipal boundaries and names of counties, as well as oil and gas fields. Rather indistinct elevation colouring shows the topography, although in the Rocky Mountains including the Banff and Jasper National Parks, many peaks and mountain ranges are named. Graphic indicate the areas of state or provincial parks and of other protected areas, as well as Indian Reservations and Metis Settlements plus restricted entry military zones. All the pages have a UTM grid and, for compass users, show the declination between the magnetic north and true north in 2012. The index is in three sections: parks indicating what facilities and recreational possibilities can be found there, communities, and road names. Also provided is a 4-page overview map of the road network for route planning, plus a comprehensive distance table. IMPORTANT FOR VISITORS TO THE NATIONAL PARKS IN THE ROCKIES: in the border regions of British Columbia, particularly in the areas adjoining the national parks in the Rockies, very little or no topographic information is provided and just main roads.
